The story
Hi, I'm Željko Bilandžija, a developer from Croatia – and a player long before that. DigWorld was not made by a studio or a company: I made it, on my own.
Where it comes from
For years I played all kinds of games: strategy games where you build a town from nothing, games of epochs and empires, games that send you outside to walk. From each of them I kept the parts I loved and quietly wondered what they would be like together – a world you build up from the Stone Age, on the real map of your own town, where the way to grow is to go out and walk.
Every new idea went into a plan. It started as a few lines of text and kept growing, game by game and year by year: how deposits lie on the map, how a base grows, how armies march and fight, how players trade and form alliances, what keeps a home private. In the end the plan described a whole game – and now I have brought it to life.
Made by one person
Everything you see here – the game, its server, the map, this website – was built by one person, with a limited set of skills and a lot of patience, with the help of today's tools for the parts I could not draw or model myself. There is no publisher and no investor behind it, only the hope that the game brings you as much joy as it brought me while making it.
That also decides how it is run:
- No ads, and nothing that makes you stronger in battle is for sale. Walking and playing is what makes you grow. Supporters get comfort and a bigger safe, never strength.
- Your home stays private. Nobody sees where your base really is.
- It grows step by step. Ten epochs are in the game today, and there is a long list of what comes next.
Your feedback is welcome
The game is still young, and it will have rough edges. Every piece of feedback and every criticism is welcome – it is how the game gets better. You can send it from the game itself (Menu → Send feedback), and it reaches me directly – or send it straight to me on my LinkedIn profile.
Thank you for walking with me.
– Željko
